For mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, an oral appliance often works as a standalone option. Patients with severe cases may still need CPAP, but some use an appliance on travel nights or as a backup. Your dentist coordinates with your sleep physician to decide.

You wear the appliance only while sleeping, so it won't affect eating or daytime speech. Some patients notice mild jaw tightness the first few mornings, but that usually fades within a week or two as your muscles adjust to the new position.
